Rising Chardonnay 2022

A blend of four parcels from the Rising Vineyards Birdwood, Bibs, House and No. 1 blocks. Handpicked, aged in a small quantity of new oak and largely left alone for the fermentation process, allowing it to develop a richness and complexity. Grilled stone fruit, soft figs and toasted hazelnuts, with sumptuous length and refreshing acidity retaining liveliness in the wine.

'Very nice. Strawberry shortcake, cherry, venison and juniper berry, and quite spicy, minty and floral too. It has a pleasing density, a good burst of spicy strawberry and cherry, kind of meaty and bunchy, a distinct 'mineral' feel to it, fine grainy and gently peppery tannin, with a bright and sappy finish of excellent length. Wheeler Willowlake Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

Made using fruit sourced from the highly esteemed Willowlake Vineyard in the cooler South-Eastern reaches of the Yarra Valley on red and grey volcanic soils.

The 2019 Pinot Noir was hand-picked in mid March. 30% whole bunch (kept as 100% whole bunch cab-mac for 2 weeks), with the balance destemmed to whole-berry. Naturally fermented with a total maceration time of approximately three weeks. Matured in French hogsheads for 9 months. Bottled in January 2020. Unfined and unfiltered. 194 dozen made.

Meaty, spicy with red capsicum and pepper, blue and purple fruit, and a fair amount of dried herb and flower perfume. It's medium-bodied, crisp and kind of slatey in feel, juicy dark small berries, fine silty tannin, freshness with distinctly meaty peppery flavour, and a crisp dry and savoury finish of excellent length.
